In light of the national attention and the HCPSS tech survey that launched recently, PTA invites our community to gather to discuss challenges and opportunities we face as parents navigating the digital lives of our families. We plan to facilitate roundtables of parents to discuss topics such as devices, screen time, social media, video games, educational technology and overarching digital safety. Regardless of expertise or personal experience with these topics, we welcome all to listen and contribute. Our goal for this time together is gather feedback from our community to help inform future PTA programming and resources.

Needed - 7pm at the September 26 Board of Education Public Hearing

Our Superintendent, Mr. William (Bill) Barnes will be presenting his recommendations for the Capital Budget (School Renovations) to the Board of Education. We need current, former and FUTURE students, teachers, and parents to write to the Superintendent and BoE with personal stories of how the state of the Dunloggin building has affected them…mice in the building, lack of bathroom availability, classrooms too small, overcrowding, maintenance issues you’ve encountered, traffic bottle necks with Northfield, etc. Anything that a new or renovated building would help with, they need to hear! Written testimony should be emailed to boe@hcpss.org and please cc superintendent@hcpss.org.

If you can attend the Public Hearing in-person or online to testify, pre-registration opens on September 5 at 8am and closes on September 25 at 4pm. Pre-registration can be done either by telephone (410-313-7194 or 410-313-1584) or online: boardoffice@hcpss.org. Testimony is limited to 3 minutes and must only be about the Capital Budget; you may testify solo or as a group. If you do not feel comfortable testifying, please attend in your DMS gear / colors (burgundy and gold) to show that our community cares about our children, teachers, and staff members and we are not going to go away until shovels are in the ground. We have been bumped from our rightful place in line on the Capital Budget too many times as our building continues to deteriorate!

Board of Education Building: 10910 Clarksville Pike (Rt 108) Ellicott City, MD 21042

Visit DMS’s Advocacy Page to learn more about how to participate in the process.
